Unanswered Questions

There are a few questions we should ask about the ICE Raid of Swift & Co.
  1. How many people were arrested/detained, and who were they?
  2. Have any of these people been deported?
  3. How many children and families are affected by this raid?
  4. If immigrating the the country illegally is a crime, what happened to the presumption of innocence? Do these people get a day in court? Has the current government suspended the 14th Amendment?
  5. Just what was Ken Buck's role in the raid and subsequent actions? Did he at any time act in a manner prohibited by the Constitution?
Just some food for thought.

Ken Buck Instrumental in Swift - ICE Raid

It appears that Weld County District Attorney, Ken Buck, was a central figure in yesterday's (12/12/2006) Immigration and Custom Enforcement raid of the Greeley Swift plant. It also appears that Wayne Allard wants everyone to know just how concerned Mr. Buck is about the raid.
"It is my understanding that Ken Buck played a key role in the investigation that led to today's raid at the Greeley facility," said Allard. "Once again, District Attorney Buck has demonstrated his commitment to ensuring that individuals involved in criminal behavior will be pursued to the full extent of the law."
Marilyn Musgrave is concerned about the raid, as well. She seems to think that illegal immigration is akin to drug trafficking and other crimes.
"From what I know, as of now, they are going after the criminal element for involvement in such offenses as drug trafficking, identity theft and other crimes. It appears that our immigration laws are being enforced and people are being arrested who have who have entered our nation illegally and have reportedly engaged in criminal activity that threatens the safety of our community."
I'm all about preventing identity theft and drug trafficking, but are the majority of the 300 or so people arrested yesterday involved in either? I doubt it. Will we see any significant fines landing on Swift & Co. for hiring any of these allegedly illegal immigrants? I doubt it.

Once again, the Republican party is making political statments by stepping on those least able to defend themselves. Nice job Ken, Marilyn, Wayne, and Tom.

Welcome to Rhymes with Buck!!!

This blog is dedicated to the vigilant observation of the political aspirations of currently sitting Weld County District Attorney, Ken Buck, as well as a spot to watch the political environment of Colorado's 4th Congressional District, and our beloved Marilyn Musgrave and Wayne Allard.

Weld County being what it is -- a recklessly Republican, socially conservative county, which often votes against its self interest -- I don't believe that we can afford to wait until the beginning of the real 2008 election cycle to begin fighting the tide. Consider this blog a bet that we are going to have to fight Ken Buck, running as a Republican. He's going to be hard to beat, too, as a law-and-order type loved by the Republican machine in Weld County.

So let's get to work.
